Sounds like science fiction, doesn&#8217;t it?\u00a0<span style=\"color: var(--sydney-text-color)\">Well, this is exactly what is Ms M\u00fcller&#8217;s bachelor project about.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: var(--sydney-text-color)\">A Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) is an interface between a human brain and an external device such as a wheelchair, prosthesis, or computer.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: var(--sydney-text-color)\">It enables a human brain to issue commands to these machines, using only its electrical signals.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2207\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.fh-kaernten.at\/med-tech\/files\/2023\/12\/Picture1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"618\" height=\"465\" 100vw, 618px\" \/><\/p><p>In this bachelor project, Ms M\u00fcller aimed to classify electroencephalogram (EEG) recordings of two imaginary activities &#8211;\u00a0<span style=\"color: var(--sydney-text-color)\">the imaginary movement of the right hand and of the left hand.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: var(--sydney-text-color)\">She implemented a support vector machine (SVM) to allow real-time classification, with an accuracy of at least 70%.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: var(--sydney-text-color)\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2208\" var(--sydney-text-color)\">Several preprocessing steps such as filtering, epoching, baseline correction, and normalization were applied and two SVM models were trained and tested:<\/span><\/p><ul><li><span style=\"color: var(--sydney-text-color)\">SVM 1 &#8211; discriminating between imaginary motion and no motion (rest)<\/span><\/li><li>SVM 2 &#8211; discriminating between the two imaginary movements<\/li><\/ul><p>The classification models trained by Ms M\u00fcller achieved a high accuracy of 88.09% for discriminating between motion and no motion (rest)\u00a0<span style=\"color: var(--sydney-text-color)\">and 79.76% for discriminating between the two imaginary movements.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: var(--sydney-text-color)\">The combined model achieved 70.26% accuracy, still above the benchmark of 70% required for correct communication via BCI.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section
